Matt Salusbury, author of Myster Animals of Suffolk and Chair of the Trustees of Dunwich Museum, describes the strange figures of woodwose (or wildmen) carven on the fonts, porches, and towers of numerous churches in Suffolk, but which are rare outside the county.
What are the Suffolk wildmen? Have there been sightings? Would there have been wildmen on display in any of Dunwich's lost churches?
Matt's investigation into Suffolk's wildmen point to an origin amound our North Sea neighbours on the Continent.

We walked through Greyfriars Woods to learn about the variety of plants and wildlife to be found in Dunwich in autumn. We collected leaves, seeds, feathers and chestnuts to make wreaths and other crafts. We also spotted a variety of fungi growing. Thinking about harvest time, we were shown some antique farming tools such as scythes, sickles, pitch forks and seed drills, and had a go at using them ourselves!
