A visit to Dunwich Museum introduces the children to the numerous fragments left from 2,000 years of settlement. Using our memorable model of the medieval port, the curator tells the story of how the sea has acted on the coastline, bringing wealth and decline to the lives of the townspeople.
We have a small shop with pocket money items. Upstairs our film extract explains the forces that shaped the dramatic story. An exhibition of local habitats and wildlife gives children the background to the issues of coastal management today.
The children can explore interactive displays to learn about smuggling, look closer at natural history and try on our historic hats. Ask us to encourage the children to 'Touch the Past' with our handling collection of common and unusual items under the guidance of a knowledgeable volunteer.
